Houston, Texas, Maritime Lawyer

Maritime lawyer Harold Eisenman P.C. is certified as a specialist in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. A board-certified attorney is one who has demonstrated special competence in an area of law.

To become board-certified in Personal Injury Trial Law, an attorney must have:

  • Been licensed to practice law in Texas for at least five years.
  • Devoted a required percentage of his or her practice to personal injury cases for at least three years.
  • Handled a broad range of personal injury trial law matters.
  • Been evaluated by fellow lawyers and judges.

The lawyer must have extensive knowledge of the law of evidence, procedure, and other substantive law involved in the trial of personal injury cases in Texas. The lawyer must pass a day-long written examination, and meet a minimum of 60 hours of approved courses in personal injury law. To remain certified, a personal injury lawyer must apply for recertification every five years and meet substantial peer review and continuing personal injury legal education requirements.

Only a lawyer who is board-certified can call himself a "specialist" in any particular area of law in Texas. Fewer than 2 percent of all lawyers in Texas are board-certified in personal injury trial law.
